One of the many crises facing the world today is poverty. There are a lot of things that affect the less unfortunate directly like disease and malnutrition. We do not really consider these problems as too important because we have ample resources, however, the smallest of our problems can be the biggest for the ones living in poverty. Poverty is someone not having the sufficient amount of material to sustain a successful lifestyle. This would be not possessing enough food, water, or money to provide oneself with healthcare whilst struggling to afford living space. Many people around the world are living in this situation right now and have no way to get out. In some countries it is common to live on a such a low level of financial security while here in the united states it is something that is quite uncommon.
Some people may not see poverty as such a challenge because we do not see it with our own eyes on the scale that other countries see daily.Statistics have shown that almost 20,000 children die a day from poverty around the world. That statistic may be surprising to some because it such a large number and you do not often see poverty as such a large problem. The fact is that poverty is a major problem that affects more than a billion people that live in extreme poverty. The reason that the death toll is so high is because most situations of poverty clean food and water is a luxury cause people to get sick making them lose even more of the nutrients sometimes causing people to die.If children are able to survive this life style their lives are often severely shortened from sever stunt growth leading to long term health issues that often plague the poor in the affected countries. Some people may find it hard to believe but almost half the world lives without our common electrical utilities that help us survive which adds to the deaths of those that are hungry. Hunger cause more deaths than anything else in the world and we need to find a way to help and make it end.
I could not agree more with you that poverty is a big issue in this world. I have seen the poverty in a foreign country first hand on my mission trips to the Dominican Republic. When I come home from the Dominican Republic and tell stories, it's hard to put into words the living conditions that I see in the different bateys. It is extremely hard for the people in bateys to get to a hospital which allows the illness that they have to worsen. The two times that I have gone, we have handed out grocery bags of food out and as soon our bus arrives in the batey it is immediately swarmed because the people are hungry.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you in how poverty is crippling the world and even the USA. Every large city I have been to there is always the unfortunate asking for spare change, or even doing unspeakable things just to keep themselves alive. I think there should be sort of a reapportionment of materials, where some regions have so much food and clothing, that it goes to waste.
