“School lunch shaming:Inside america's debt crisis”(School)

Long, Heather. "School Lunch Shaming: Inside America's Hidden Debt Crisis." CNNMoney. Cable News Network, 10 May 2017. Web. 30 June 2017.

Student lunches affect almost everyone going to our school even if people don't eat them they see them every day in the cafeteria.Big Spring has a high percentage of students below the poverty line and that allows them to receive free or reduced lunch rates. The students that receive free or reduced lunches may be having the only food they will be eating all day and that is cause for alarm in our community. While the lunches may be enough for some students they may not come close to enough for others leading to health risks. The lunches given have been planned out on a certain budget and schools cannot make exceptions for large portions of the school that may be getting breakfast and lunch in our schools as their only meals.
The problem with purchasing such a large quantity of food for so many students in america is the price which has been the main concern for people fighting against the expansion of school lunch programs.students have been digging a hole for themselves in debt for years with near 76% of schools in america have students with lunch debt. The debt of these student causes more concern as they are trying to pay for free lunches of these students but also having to deny others that are too far in debt.In big spring there are times when if your debt is too large or at the end of the year they will not let you buy food for lunch making the children that could be having their only meal at school go hungry. While others schools will often give children that are in debt a separate lesser lunch than what everyone else is having our school will just deny children food letting them go hungry.

There needs to be big change in the system we have for students food the prices are too high for students that need more than the average and for students that can't pay at all the system doesn't always work.Someone needs to take a fresh look at the system and see what could be changed possibly the suppliers of the product or the system for cooking and cleaning to save money and give back to the students because the prices for the food children are eating is outrageous and needs to change.
